Why Mediation?

Because you have options. Conflict is expensive…financially and otherwise. People are also communicating less. Conflict resolution encourages meaningful dialogue and fosters connection. Our services support a focus on self-determination,
confidentiality and neutrality.

In short, mediation is a structured voluntary confidential process using an impartial third party who assists two or more people in resolving their own dispute or having difficult conversations.

Mediation can improve relations. Mediation provides a safe setting to be heard, find out if there’s new information, create plans of action and come to agreement.

It’s cost-effective. Litigation can be costly and takes up a lot of time. Mediation is relatively inexpensive and there’s more room to navigate each parties needs.

It’s confidential. Mediation provides an impartial and confidential setting where everyone can openly discuss their views on a dispute.

It allows you to stay in control. The process is yours and you get to be creative with the solution.

It is flexible. Mediation is effective in all kinds of interpersonal conflicts. Some examples are mediation for one, neighbor to neighbor, home owner association, buyers/sellers, workplace, family, life transitions (divorce, eldercare, medical and estate issues) and many others.

It is accessible. We can mediate safely in person or remotely.

How it works

Initially a member of our staff speaks with each party involved to learn about the situation. Once a mediation is scheduled, all parties agree to sit down together and have a conversation; (for remote participants, an online meeting platform and/or telephone mediation is arranged).

The goal is for parties to feel heard, learn new ways to resolve their conflict and to negotiate an agreement. Standpoint provides the process, guidelines, tools for successful communication, and support for constructive dialogue before and during each mediation.

Costs

Our mediation fee starts at $150.00 an hour per mediator. Mediations that require specific expertise (experts in elder senior living, real estate contracting) or large groups requiring multiple mediators are at a higher rate. This fee is usually split between the parties. In some circumstances, we’re willing to negotiate our fees, so feel free to ask.

Mediation can be the fastest, most effective and least expensive way to resolve conflicts between homeowners, associations, families, and community boards. Finding common ground in a non-hostile environment is preferable to ongoing tension or the expense of legal recourse.
